WWE superstar Sami Zayn has revealed how watching some ‘grumpy’ veterans inspired the way he interacts with fans.

Without naming names, the Honorary Uce – who will join The Bloodline in battle at WWE Survivor Series War Games tonight – insisted some more tenured stars didn’t seem as appreciative of their audience.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘When I started going on the road with WWE coming out of NXT and all that stuff, I used to see some of the grumpy veterans and they would treat the fans, sometimes, really poorly.

‘Not all of them, some of them were great. I remember thinking, man, I don’t ever wanna be like that! I don’t ever wanna take these fans for granted and be like that!’

The former Intercontinental Champion did admit while he loves the ‘excitement’ of bumping into fans in unexpected places, he would sometimes have a different outlook.

‘I started getting on the road, there [can be] a culture surrounding it – “this is just how you act”. You’re supposed to be annoyed by the fans or something,’ he explained.

‘I’ll admit, there were times at the airport where I’m like, “What are you guys doing here?!” It happened once or twice for sure. But then I kinda stopped myself and I thought, what am I doing?’

He added: ‘I just learnt, this is probably seven or eight years ago, to switch my thinking and to really appreciate fan interactions.’

Although Sami noted sometimes he can be in a bad mood or just not having a great day, he insisted it’s better to set that aside and make time for the audience.

‘It takes two seconds. If i’m just nice and I’m cool, they have a great memory and everyrone’s happy. If I’m a jerk, I’m the only one – I leave and I’m still angry,’ he laughed.

‘They don’t even realise, I’m the one sitting there stewing. I deny them and opportunity to interact with someone they see on TV and that they never really get to meet, and they might be a fan of or whatever.’

WWE Survivor Series War Games airs tonight (November 26) at 1am. Tune in via BT Sport 1 or the WWE Network.
