WWE is introducing the world to Survivor Series War Games tonight as the long running event gets a shakeup after 35 years.
Despite its legendary run as one of the company’s Big Four premium live events and the often fun traditional five-on-five elimination tag bouts, the show stuttered in recent years with a forced focus on ‘brand warfare’.
Thankfully, things are changing with the introduction of War Games – often stylised as WarGames – following its huge success as a standalone event for NXT.
With two flagship bouts and a fantastic undercard on paper, there’s a lot to get excited about – but how does it all work?
In an interview with The Ringer earlier this year, WWE boss Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque teased: ‘We’ll have a men’s WarGames match and a women’s WarGames match. The tradition of the Survivor Series has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that.
‘This will not be Raw versus SmackDown. It will be much more story-line driven. I still look at it as a traditional component to Survivor Series in there because it’s large teams of people competing. We just upped the ante a little bit with WarGames and made it evolve.’
Here’s what you need to know about the matches themselves.
What are the rules for WWE WarGames?
