Calvin Harris has awkwardly responded to rumours that he produced a full album for ex-girlfriend Rita Ora after years of speculation.

The two musicians famously dated before One Kiss producer Calvin found love and got engaged to radio presenter Vick Hope, and prior to Body On Me singer Rita (supposedly) married Marvel director Taika Waititi

Rita and Calvin’s relationship lasted for around a year before their split in 2014, but they’ll always have the shared history of a number one song together, with Calvin producing her chart-topping single I Will Never Let You Down.

Fans have long wondered what happened with Rita’s relationship with Jay Z’s management label Roc Nation, which she was signed to early on in her career.

Rita, 32, took the music company to court in 2015 to get released from her contract after claiming she’d been neglected by the firm. They countered with a $2.3million (£1.9m) lawsuit, saying she hadn’t yet produced enough albums before they managed to reach a settlement.

The RIP singer has sat down for a chat with Louis Theroux for his new interview series and was asked what happened to all the music she recorded, including a long-lost second album that was meant for release under Roc Nation.

One Rita fan tweeted: ‘Louis theroux interviewing rita ora and asking about her cancelled second roc nation album???? this is my own personal princess diana newsnight moment.

‘A reminder that if rita’s calvin harris produced second album (i will never let you down was the first of MANY tracks) hadn’t been torpedoed she would have probably been one of the biggest pop stars in the world for like 2 years, i have never gotten over it.’

Calvin, 38, caught wind of the tweets and set the record straight once and for all, replying: ‘Entire thing is a myth, there is one unreleased song i worked on and it isn’t good.’

In the upcoming episode of Louis’ new BBC programme, the filmmaker asked: ‘Why wasn’t the music coming out?’

Rita responded: ‘I don’t know. I was recorded for two or three years straight. There was a whole moment that was about to happen, I recorded a music video and they scrapped it. I felt really disappointed like I’d let them down.’

The award-winning documentarian continued: ‘It’s been reported that all the music was going to Rihanna – she was obviously the most established artist – she was getting first refusal on all the music and she’d sit on songs that had been written.

‘Either way the result was you couldn’t get a look at it and she had a problem with you.’

Rita said: ‘I can’t speak for other people but I think publicly they always put women against each other. I’ve been nothing but a fan and respectful of her and I always will be.’
