Darius Campbell Danesh was in a relationship until his death, it has been confirmed, with his girlfriend’s identity now revealed.

The former Pop Idol star died on August 11 at the age of 41. An autopsy report revealed that the singer died accidentally as the result of ‘toxic effects of chloroethane’ which had been inhaled, with suffocation also cited to have contributed to his death.

It has now emerged that Danesh Campbell was dating American businesswoman Lauren Cheek until his death.

A friend of the late star previously hinted at this relationship but Lauren’s identity was not made public until now.

She shared an Instagram post paying tribute to the Colourblind singer shortly after his death alongside sweet photos of them kissing and cuddling for photos in his native Scotland and California, as well as hanging out with friends on a beach.

Lauren captioned the post: ‘My best friend, my love, my soul mate – and now my angel 🤍 Nothing can put into words the pain and shock I’m feeling without you 💔 It still just doesn’t feel real 😔 i love you forever & ever.’

According to a friend of the late star, Chris Cochran, Danesh Campbell was ‘enjoying a relationship with an old friend that he started dating again’.

Danesh Campbell’s brothers spoke out for the first time since his death in September, sharing poignant tributes to the musician.

His siblings Arias and Cyrus wrote: ‘Brother, We will miss you so much. You were a supernova star, shining light and love to so many. It was the greatest privilege to be your brother for all these years.

‘While your earthly presence has passed, your spirit will forever be with us. We will celebrate and love you, always. Until we meet again, Aria & Cyrus.’

Danesh Campbell was found dead in his apartment in Minnesota and his family shared the devastating news in a statement.

They said: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

‘Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

‘The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

‘We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.’

Danesh Campbell’s former Pop Idol co-star Gareth Gates recently revealed that he last spoke to the singer two weeks before his death.
