Dua Lipa was granted her Albanian citizenship by President Bajram Begaj and couldn’t be prouder as she shared the news with her millions of social media followers. 

The English singer arrived in the capital city Tirana today ahead of her concert that she will perform on the country’s Independence Day at Skanderbeg Square

Posting the life update to her 87.4million Instagram followers, the star beamed in a blue tartan patterned dress that she paired with white knee-high boots and bag to match. 

Dua was born and raised in London however her parents and family descended from Kosovo and Bosnia. 

In the gallery of photos, the New Rules singer shared a video of her signing documents in the presence of the country’s president and clapping with delight once the ceremonial process was complete.

Looking happy as can be, the hitmaker clutched a red binder folder and uploaded snaps of the Albanian capital as it geared up for celebrations with red flag bunting hanging above the road.

Sharing behind-the-scenes content of the special event, Dua captioned the post: ‘Thank you President Bajram Begaj and Mayor @erionveliaj for this honour ~ got my Albanian citizenship!! ~ faleminderit, po ndihem shume krenare (thank you, I’m feeling very proud) [sic]’.

President Begaj followed suit and gave updates to his Twitter community on his day with Dua.

Tweeting a series of pictures alongside a lengthy caption, he expressed his pride for the Grammy winner: ‘Happy to give the one and only @DUALIPA the decree of Albanian citizenship.

Fans rushed to the comment section to post their reactions to the singer’s new citizenship. 

On her profile, buckets of red hearts and congratulatory wishes flooded her post with one fan saying: ‘Congratz, be always proud of your heritage [sic]’. 

Another penned in Albanian: ‘All Albanians including those of Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro should be proud of you and for you are given the same right to Albanian citizenship. 

‘Follow us wherever you are! [sic]’. 

Continuing to outpour praise and support of the latest addition to the country, fans also took to the president’s page to applaud his decision.

One happy user wrote: ‘Dua Lipa I Love you [sic]’, followed by too many red hearts to count and a gif showing yet more massive love hearts. 

The megastar is currently performing as part of her world tour Future Nostalgia.
