Sir Elton John has commented on whether he thinks his two sons will follow in his musical footsteps following his smash hit show at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium.

The veteran star shares his sons, Zachary, 11 and Elijah, nine, with his Canadian filmmaker husband David Furnish.

Making a surprise appearance at the unveiling of Saks’ Christmas display on Fifth Avenue, the family of four delighted crowds with a festive countdown ahead of Sir Elton’s predictions for his children’s future.

The father-of-two made a point to address the fact they are both too young to be sure of anything when it came to their career.

Speaking with E! News at the light-show extravaganza that shut down central parts of New York City, he said: ‘They are still so young, so not entirely sure.

‘But of course, whatever their dreams and ambitions are, my husband David and I will fully support them.’

A donation of $1million (£828,157) was made to the singer’s Aids Foundation’s Rocket Fund after which he shocked onlookers with a rendition of Your Song while playing a grand piano.

Sir Elton took time out to reflect on the event and what it means to be a part of it: ‘Taking the stage on Fifth Avenue and feeling the magical energy of New York during the holidays, is the best way to celebrate the end of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in the U.S.

‘I share the appreciation for luxury fashion that Saks has, and have always seen their holiday windows as one of the most iconic parts of New York City during the holidays.’

The Tiny Dancer hitmaker carried on sharing what the support of a department store as iconic as Saks means to him.

He outlined: ‘Year after year, I am inspired by the creativity and imagination that Saks brings to its legendary holiday windows lighting up Fifth Avenue.

‘I am also thrilled to have my curated merchandise collection on Saks.com, in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with pieces integrated into this year’s window display.’

Lighting up the Dodgers Stadium, Sir Elton pitched up for his final show that closed off his North American Farewell Yellowbrick Road tour.

The stunning performance was believed to be his last ever appearance as a headlining act.
