Doja Cat came clean on why she decided to redefine beauty standards after shaving off her hair and eyebrows on a livestream video.

The singer spoke candidly about her surprise at the reaction of fans to her new look and shared her confusion at the chaos shaving her head caused.

Rewriting the rules of make-up and beauty, the megastar has spent the last year experimenting with colourful looks that have hit headlines for their boldness.

She was talked about after donning expressive looks for multiple fashion shows and red carpets events that included intergalactic themed eyeliner, apple, flowers and sperm motif eyebrows and most controversially the shaving of her head and eyebrows.

Admitting the chart-topper didn’t get what all the fuss was about, Doja revealed her fans didn’t hold back when it came to commenting on the Britney Spears-esque live stream in which the singer gave herself a buzzcut.

The songstress – real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – chatted with Dazed for her cover story and shared that while the decision to go bald was sudden, in her eyes it was always going to happen.

‘They’re like, “Oh, this can’t possibly be her simply having fun.”

‘“She has to be out of her mind. She has to be cuckoo,”’ she told the magazine.

According to Doja her friends and family tried multiple times to stop the star from starting up the shaver but she had a point to prove that went beyond looking ‘sexy’.

In response to an online critic, the performer explained her new style: ‘I wasn’t trying to look sexy or attractive.

Despite backlash, Doja is adamant she knows what she id doing and is having fun (Picture: Dazed Magazine)

‘All of my make-up has a story and there are absolutely 0 rules’.

Hesitating at first due to the fact the hitmaker felt she mirrored a ‘wrinkly penis – I looked like I had an exposed brain’, the Say So singer said she now feels more beautiful and in control than ever before.

‘I felt beautiful when I had long hair. I definitely felt like a hot girl then, but I always do.

‘There’s something so exhilarating about change; [it] showed me a different side of myself. I feel so new, fresh and sexy.

‘I also feel better without make-up: having this bare head and so little make-up is a fun experience. It’s new, and I love it.’
