Joe Pesci made it his mission to make Macaulay Culkin scared while filming the beloved film Home Alone.

While the classic film first debuted in 1990, secrets from the set are still being uncovered, with the new Sky documentary The Unofficial Science Of Home Alone being the latest venture shelling out all the behind-the-scenes action.

In the documentary, Daniel Stern, who played Marv Murchins, one half of the Wet Bandits, along with Pesci, who played Harry Lyme, reveals that his co-star took his role incredibly seriously.

Speaking to comedian Alex Brooker, Stern claims Pesci really did want to make sure Kevin McAllister star Culkin was scared out of his mind in the film and said he did his best to intimidate the youngster, who was just 10 years old at the time.

‘I heard somewhere that on set Joe genuinely wanted Macauley Culkin to be intimidated by him and so would act intimidating,’ Brooker probes.

‘Joe wanted everyone to be intimidated by him, that wasn’t just of Mac,’ Stern replies.

‘But yeah, I think Joe… he wanted Mac to be scared of him. I think he wanted everyone to be scared of him. And he still is scary.’

Discussing his own on-screen chemistry with Pesci, he adds: ‘We were classic characters in a certain way.

‘The friendship was fun, the movie was fun, the silliness we both approached in our own way that was comfortable for each of us, and the chemistry kind of clicked.’

The Unofficial Science Of Home Alone takes a closer look at all the deadly traps from the movie to see whether Harry and Marv would have survived them in real life.
