A Pokémon Scarlet and Violet fan has figured out how to evolve characters that need to be taken for a walk, without actually walking.

Some new Generation IX pokémon have a very specific requirement before they can evolve: they need to take 1,000 steps outside of their pokéball.

This evolution method might sound easier than going on a whole adventure to evolve other creatures, such as Charcadet, but it’s still quite time-consuming.

Plus, if you want to evolve multiple pokémon you’d have to take each one of them on a walk and you’d still need to level them up as well.

One player faced this exact problem and figured out a quick way around this requirement, involving placing their trainer on top of a Poké Mart with the help of Koraidon.

What you need to do for this trick to work is find any tall building and get on top of it, leaving the pokémon you want to evolve on the ground.

However, make sure it’s still near you, because if it’s too far away the trick won’t work, and your pal will go back into its pokéball.

Once you’ve taken the high ground, you’ll see your pokémon will start running around in circles, kind of like a puppy chasing its tail – this means you’re doing it right.

As soon as this happens its step count will start increasing, so you can just sit back and relax while your pokémon is… running around frantically.

You might need to try jumping on a few different buildings to see which one triggers the trick, as sometimes your pokémon will simply stop walking, instead of circling around.

Also, if you haven’t unlocked the high jump move for Koraidon/Miraidon, you’ll need to do that first, by progressing the Path of Legends questline.
