Stevie Nicks pays tribute to ‘best friend in the whole word’ Christine McVie after Fleetwood Mac star’s death-Lucy Norris-Entertainment – Metro

Stevie Nicks has shared a touching tribute to Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie following her death aged 79 on Wednesday night. 

Describing the late singer as ‘my best friend in the whole world’, the musician posted heartfelt words on her social media channels on hearing the tragic news. 

The US singer and fellow Fleetwood Mac member admitted she hadn’t known of McVie’s illness until Saturday night and had intended to visit her in London.

‘A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975, had passed away’, she wrote in a photo of a handwritten letter that was uploaded to Instagram. 

‘I didn’t even know she was ill … until late Saturday night. I wanted to be in London, I wanted to get to London – but we were told to wait.

‘So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so I’m singing it to her now.

‘I always knew I would need these words one day…It’s all I can do now.’ 

Within the same note, Stevie then shared the lyrics to the song Hallelujah by Haim adding: ‘See you on the other side my love. 

‘Don’t forget me. Always, Stevie.’ 

Sheryl Crow joined Stevie in reacting to the death of her late friend. 

Writing on Twitter, the musician reposted an article linking to the news and penned: I am so sad to hear of Christine McVie going on to heaven. 

‘The world feels weird without her here. What a legend and an icon and an amazing human being. RIP.’

A statement from the band was also released on the social media networking site and spoke of the ‘one-of-a-kind’ nature of their former member.

The words posted against a white background read: ‘There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. 

‘She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure.

‘She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.

‘We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.’

More celebrity tributes hit social media, with presenter Adil Ray sharing details of how the star grew up in his hometown: ‘Proud she grew up down the road in Bearwood, Birmingham & studied music at Moseley School of Art a venue where I spent many years [sic].’

Bette Middler nodded to McVie’s legacy when she said: ‘#ChristineMcVie has left us. What memories, what joy, and what a legacy…’

Fellow music maker and member of Duran Duran John Taylor penned a note to the Fleetwood Mac star above a black and white portrait of the late singer.

‘So so sad to hear about Christine McVie an artist I held dear and close to my heart.

‘One of the greatest all time songwriters, singers, and band members, she radiated both purity and sass in equal measure, bringing light to the music of the 70s. RIP. – John’

McVie’s family released a statement announcing the star died peacefully in a hospital on Wednesday and urged ‘everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally.’
