Phillip Schofield helmed This Morning alone as Holly Willoughby skipped the ITV daytime show for an adorable reason.

The duo have been presenting the long-running chat show since 2009 and are famous for erupting into laughter, which at times has left executive scrambling to run an emergency ad break.

But Phil, 60, was flying solo on This Morning’s famous sofa on Thursday’s episode as Holly, 41, had another rather festive engagement.

Phil told viewers: ‘You may notice that someone is missing. That’s because Holly is busy doing something that parents up and down the country can relate to.’

The Cube presenter revealed that Holly, who shares children Harry, 12, Belle, 10, Chester, 7, with Celebrity Juice producer Dan Baldwin, was at her youngest child’s nativity play.

Speaking to the veteran TV presenter via video link outside of Chester’s school, the Wylde Moon founder said she was ‘very excited’ to see her son perform.

Holly explained the show would be kicking off at 10.15am and featured a festive cast of characters including gingerbread men and ‘Clarence the camel’, with Chester bagging the role of Father Christmas.

‘It’s all going off,’ she explained, before adding that she was ‘ready to have a cry. It’s very emotional.’

Holly also revealed that Chester’s headmaster was standing in for the camera operator as she chatted to Phil.

After she watches her son tread the boards, Holly said she would head to This Morning studios to host the rest of the show.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
