Love Island winner Jess Hayes wiped away tears as she spoke about how feeling ‘obsessed’ with how she looked took its ‘toll’.
The 29-year-old appeared in the first-ever series of the juggernaut reality series back in 2015, which she won with then-partner Max Morley.
The influencer appeared on Channel 4 documentary Love Island: Untold, in which former Islanders opened up about what happened after the show, to discuss her stint in the villa.
The mother-of-one cried as she recalled feeling the need to ‘mess around’ with her face, which resulted in her getting fillers.
She told host Will Njobvu, 35: ‘I remember going in there [the villa] very natural, I was what I was. I came out and it was instantly liked I needed to go and mess around with myself, my face.
‘So I went got fillers in my face, first it started with my lips, then somewhere else. You become obsessed with how you look and it’s keeping up appearances all the time.
‘And eventually, that really takes its toll.’

Jess also revealed she would read trolls’ comments about her appearance as she recalled ‘feeling pressure from all angles’ to conform to a certain look.
She explained: ‘I’d read through comments online and it would be like “She looks like the Michelin man, look how big she is,” she said before adding: ‘You start to believe it and it warps your mind.’
Jess continued: ‘I think you felt pressure from all angles, social media, the papers, just everything. You just felt you had to look a certain way, it makes you sad now.’

‘You look back and think that poor, naive, young girl. Sorry, I’m getting emotional.’
However, Jess said she had learned from the experience and was now able to ‘handle’ any cruel comments.
She added: ‘I’m strong now, I can handle it. But I look at that poor, naive 22-year-old girl that felt like she had to look a certain way. My mind was warped, and I feel for her.

‘If I could say to my younger self now, you’re beautiful the way you are. You don’t need to listen to other people and change.’
In happier news, Jess recently announced her engagement to businessman Zeb, who popped the question during a romantic break in Ibiza.
She told OK! Magazine: ‘We’d only been together for a year so I wasn’t expecting it. It was a massive surprise.’

Jess was previously engaged to Dan Lawry, with whom she shares son Presley, three.
The former couple sadly had a miscarriage at 19 weeks in 2020, another son they named Teddy.
Jess wrote on Instagram at the time: ‘I’m so sorry I couldn’t keep you safe for a little while longer. I’m sorry I couldn’t take you home. I’m sorry we had to say goodbye this way it wasn’t supposed to be like this.

‘The pain is unbearable and I feel like I’m drowning in grief. My mind spinning thinking of all the what-ifs and questions of who you would of grown up to be.
‘When will I wake up from this awful nightmare.’
