For once you can be glad that The Game Awards lasts over three hours, as Valve will be giving a away over 100 Steam Deck devices during it.
The Game Awards is not only the video game equivalent of the Oscars but it’s also the single most important preview event of the year, with dozens of new games expected to be announced and footage revealed for titles that have so far only been hinted at.
It’s all very exciting, except it doesn’t start until 12.30 in the morning and goes on for at least three hours. So if you’re watching in the UK or Europe you have got to be really committed to see it live.
However, Valve has agreed to make it worth everyone’s time, regardless of what gets announced, by giving away over a hundred Steam Deck devices – and it’s the high-end expensive version too.
Before you worry that this only applies to the US, they’ve said its open to the UK, US, Canada, and most of Europe, so there really is no catch at all.
The Game Awards hasn’t announced how long it will run yet, so it’s possible it could be shorter than three hours this year, but you’re still probably looking at at least 150 chances to win.
How to win a Steam Deck at The Game Awards
You will have to register to win though, which you can do here and which will grant you a digital sticker of a Steam Deck for your troubles.
The only slight problem is that in order to register you will have had to have made a purchase on Steam between November 14, 2021 and November 14, 2022 in one of the countries that are eligible for the draw.
That’s apparently to ensure you are from the country you say you are, but if you haven’t used Steam before there are plenty of things that are almost free. This page features a number of ‘cheap low end games’, including one that’s just 22p.
The winners will be streamed live on the official Steam stream of the The Game Awards, so good luck to everyone that gives it a try!
The Game Awards starts at 12.30am GMT on Friday, December 9. That’s so late that officially the date is Thursday, December 8, but by the time it starts in the UK it’s already the next day.
