A mystery city and Michael Madsen have left people scrambling to figure out what Epic Games’ reveal at The Game Awards is going to be.

While there have been surprisingly few leaks related to The Game Awards, at least so far, there remains plenty of speculation and teasers pointing to potential announcements.

Final Fantasy 16 is expected to make an appearance since producer Naoki Yoshida is confirmed to be in attendance (there are also rumours of pre-orders going live the same day) and a recent Hideo Kojima tweet has fans thinking Death Stranding 2 will be revealed.

One of the few guarantees though is the reveal of what looks to be a new IP from Fortnite maker Epic Games and publisher 505 Games. One that may involve Michael Madsen for some reason.

Recently, 505 Games shared a clip on Twitter – one which tags both Keighley and Epic Games – of Madsen (who calls himself Keighley’s number one fan) approaching a receptionist to return a wallet that Keighley supposedly dropped.

Epic Games has also retweeted it, but the main detail is that the wallet contains a QR code, which people have already discovered takes you to a teaser website.

Hi Geoff,

Your number one fan has left something in reception.

Want to come and collect it?

Thank you! pic.twitter.com/BHeSMgwSm0

The website doesn’t reveal much else, only featuring a city at night and stating that a reveal is planned for The Game Awards. The URL mentions a Rockay City, but a quick Google search doesn’t yield any meaningful results.

Rockay City is no doubt the name of the game’s setting, but it’s not a reference to any other franchise, so this looks to be a brand new IP.

Presumably Madsen is also starring in it as one of the characters. Otherwise, his appearance in the teaser would be incredibly random.

Although he’s best known for his film performances, such as Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, Madsen has also provided voicework for video games. Examples include Grand Theft Auto 3, both Dishonored games, and the Reservoir Dogs game from 2006, where he reprised his role from the movie.

Whatever you say, man! You’re the boss here

It’s possible that this mystery game will involve criminal gangs, as this Twitter exchange between Keighley and Epic Games feels like blatant teasing.

‘It would be criminal to ruin the surprise,’ says Keighley, with Epic Games responding with ‘You’re the boss here.’

Fans over on Reddit are speculating that it could be something in a similar vein to the Grand Theft Auto games.

‘Please be a GTA-like. I’ve been starving for a good one since Watch Dogs 2. The Saints Row reboot did not hit the spot,’ pleads forestplunger.

Others, however, are already prepared to be disappointed, when it’s revealed to be another battle royale or some kind of live service title.

‘I really have no faith that anyone’s got the guts to make single-player contemporary crime-action games anymore (don’t count Saints Row as it had all these weird sci-fi aspects to it),’ says eaze2013.

The other question is why a company as big as Epic is teaming up with a publisher as relatively small as 505 Games. The only obvious reason would be if they’re using one of 505’s existing IPs but there’s no hint that’s the case and it’s hard to imagine which one it’d be anyway.

You won’t have to wait much longer for answers as The Game Awards are scheduled to take place next week on December 8. Although it’s technically December 9 for the UK since it starts at 12:30 in the morning.
