Get excited, Heartstopper fans, because filming for season 2 is done and dusted!

The coming of age comedy-drama took the world by storm earlier this year as fans took Nick Nelson (played by Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) to their hearts.

After breaking all kinds of streaming records, the Netflix series was renewed for not one, but two more seasons, with viewers eager to see how the love story between rugby lad Nick and shy boy Charlie blossoms.

And while a release date for the second instalment is yet to be confirmed, we might not have long to wait.

Alice Oseman, illustrator of the Heartstopper graphic novels, has confirmed a wrap on filming, with post-production imminent.

Sharing photos with Kit, 18, and Joe, 19, Alice described the process of creating series 2 as ‘incredibly intense’.

‘That’s a wrap on Heartstopper season 2!’, Alice began in their caption. ‘It’s been an incredibly intense few months on set with many new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone rose to those challenges with such passion and skill and determination.’

Alice continued with gratitude: ‘Huge thanks to every single member of the cast and crew – everyone has worked ridiculously hard and given it their all, and for that I am eternally grateful.’

She concluded: ‘This season is going to be so magical and I can’t wait to get started on post-production! 🍂🌈’.

Time really has flown by, as the announcement that filming had begun in September only feels like five minutes ago.

While season 2 will welcome back Kit, Joe, Yasmin Finney, William Gao and more, there’ll also be new faces, with Bel Priestly, Ash Self, and Thibault De Montalembert also joining the cast.

Bel will play Naomi while Ash will play Felix, who are both ‘new friends’ of Elle Argent (Yasmin).

Thibault will arrive as Nick’s father, Stephane, starring opposite the legendary Olivia Coleman as his mother.

Heartstopper season 2 is expected to pick up where season 1 left off, after Nick and Charlie officially became ‘boyfriends’ and Nick came out to his mum in an emotional scene.

However, it remains to be seen how the rest of the school will react to their romance, especially with Charlie’s bullies and his kind-of ex-boyfriend Ben still walking the halls.

Heartstopper season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
