It hasn’t even been 24 hours since launch and Krafton investors already seem disappointed with its horror title The Callisto Protocol.
Given the lack of any new Dead Space games from EA since 2013, it made perfect sense for the series’ creator Glen Schofield to make up for that absence with a spiritual successor, at new developer Striking Distance Studios.
That successor, The Callisto Protocol, is now available, but there are already signs that it’s not performing as well as Striking Distance and publisher Krafton may have hoped.
This is because Krafton’s stock has dropped on the South Korea stock exchange by hefty 8.41%, bringing it down to the lowest it’s been since November 10.
Since it’s far too early to know how well it’s sold the reason for the drop has been put squarely on the reviews, which went live first thing this morning and have been mixed to negative.
You can see how Krafton’s stock has dipped yourself over on Yahoo Finance, which shows the drop starting around 3:20 pm Korea time, about an hour after reviews, such as ours, were published.
While there’s no official statement on the matter, analyst Serkan Toto claims that investors were underwhelmed with The Callisto Protocol’s reception and have lost faith in its potential to become a major IP for Krafton, alongside PUBG Battlegrounds.
At the time of writing, the game has a respectable Metacritic rating of 76 based on 37 critic reviews. Scores do fluctuate between outlets, though, with some going as high as a perfect 5/5 and others going as low as a 2.5/5.
Be sure to read our full review but in short we weren’t especially impressed, finding it be lacking any original ideas and, oddly, not very scary. Which most of the other negative reviews seem to agree with.
Unfortunately for Krafton the Dead Space angle doesn’t help much either, as EA has announced a remake of the original game for early next year, which many may now be tempted to wait for.
Things are looking particularly dire for the game’s Steam version too, which has been bombarded with a lot of negative user reviews. The most common complaint is with its performance, with many citing stuttering issues.

Perhaps the game can improve its reputation over time though, as Krafton has just announced six months of post-launch content.
A New Game+ mode and extra difficulty option are scheduled for February, followed by three content bundles that add things like new armour, a permadeath mode, and additional story elements.
Those bundles are also part of the game’s season pass, which is currently available for purchase for around £24.
The Callisto Protocol is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
