Strictly Come Dancing 2022 is nearing its final, with just six couples remaining in the race for the Glitterball trophy.
So far this season we’ve seen the series pay tribute to the BBC’s 100th anniversary, return to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the first time since 2019, and dish up its annual movie and Halloween specials, as well as give us some genuinely sizzling routines.
But it’s all change for this week’s quarter-final, as the remaining couples take on the Musicals special – as the show has moved out of its regular Saturday night slot, and is airing on Friday night instead.
Just why is Strictly on Friday this week? Here’s what you need to know…
Why is Strictly Come Dancing on Friday this week?
Quite simply, Strictly Come Dancing has moved into a Friday night slot this week to make way for the World Cup, as the knockout stage of the tournament gets underway.
Saturday night sees BBC One showing live coverage of the clash between Argentina and Australia, which begins at 6.20pm and is scheduled to run through until 9.15pm (although this could be subject to change if the game goes to extra time or penalties).
With that being the time that Strictly normally airs, the show has moved forward to Friday this week to make way for the match.
And next weekend’s show is also moving in the schedules, airing on Sunday December 11.
Tess Daly confirmed the change on last weekend’s show when she told people to tune in on Friday next week, adding: ‘Yes, you heard right! Friday.’
A BBC spokesperson also revealed the changes to metro.co.uk ahead of the World Cup starting, saying: ‘Strictly Come Dancing will continue to bring glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
‘The quarter final of Strictly Come Dancing will now air live on Friday 2nd December and the semi-final will now air live on Sunday 11th December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.’

Strictly Come Dancing kicks off on BBC One on Friday night at 8pm and runs for just over an hour, ending at 9.05pm.
If you miss it you’ll be able to catch up via the BBC iPlayer afterwards.
The results show is also moving in the schedules, airing on Saturday night at 5.40pm, just ahead of the football.
That show will see the six remaining couples reduced down to five, who will go on to battle it out next weekend for a place in the Grand Final on Saturday December 17.
Meanwhile the knockout stages of the World Cup continue over the weekend, with England facing their next match, against Senegal, on Sunday night.
You can watch live coverage of that game on ITV from 6pm.
