Eamonn Holmes has thanked fans for their support and kindness after struggling through his ‘health and personal’ issues.

The former This Morning host was forced to take a break from GB News after fracturing his shoulder, and not long later announced the death of his mother.

Eamonn lost his father Leonard in 1991, and said his mother had been ‘reunited’ with him in his post, which he called the family’s ‘only consolation’.

The 62-year-old broadcaster had previously shared how ‘hellish’ his recovery had been from a major back operation, after falling down the stairs and fracturing his shoulder.

‘It was a massive setback and means I’m going to need to take some extra time off to get myself better. It’s been a hellish few weeks.

‘But day by day I’m improving, and I am remaining positive and trying to look on the bright side,’ he said at the time.

He has now broken his silence after announcing the death of his mother, having received warm wishes for his birthday, Eamonn wrote on Twitter: ‘Hello Everyone….Recent Health and personal events have resulted in a huge outpouring of affection from people I have the privilege of knowing and so many that I don’t.

‘I’ve done my best to say thank you and again I do today on the occasion of my birthday. U r all too good x’.

The broadcaster, who is married to Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford, was unable to attend his mother’s funeral in person due to health reasons, and spoke virtually to the congregation, saying: ‘My name is Eamonn and I am the second son – my other brothers being Emmett, Connor and Leonard Holmes – of Josie.

‘They are all here today and I love and respect them so much for what they constantly do for mum.’

‘Unfortunately, I can only be here virtually but I am watching it on the television,’ he added, according to The Belfast Telegraph.

Eamonn also said that his mother had given him her ‘blessing and understanding’ for his decision not to attend the funeral in person, even cracking a joke.

‘A few weeks ago she said to me she didn’t want me at her funeral anyway,’ he recalled.
