Nineties nostalgia was the order of the evening on Saturday Night Live when cast member Kenan Thompson reunited with Kel Mitchell for a skit based around a reboot of their popular Nickelodeon show.

Saturday’s sketch revolved around guest host Keke Palmer’s idea to bring back Kenan and Kel – but this time as Kenan and Kelly, with herself as co-lead in the show.

Done in a mockumentary style, Keke managed to get a reluctant Kenan involved, admitting to camera: ‘I had already sold the show before I even met Kenan. I told the producers we wrote it together.’

The new show, which saw Kenan still working at convenience store Rigby’s, took on a rather more dramatic style as Keke’s Kelly confessed she was pregnant with his baby, incorporating her real-life bump after revealing the news for the first time in her opening monologue.

New cast member Devon Walker was then seen pitching himself for the show with his best impression of Kel’s Good Burger character, only for Kenan to respond: ‘I think we already found someone.’

The real Kel then burst into the scene, heading straight for his beloved orange soda, before shockingly being gunned down by James Austin Johnson as a robber.

As he lay bleeding to death, Keke’s Kelly then added one final dramatic twist as she revealed he was really the father of her baby.

The sketch then ended with Kenan in a confessional, speaking to camera, revealing: ‘The show is not good, but Jordan Peele called us.’

‘He wants us to do a sequel to Nope,’ added Kel, as they fist bumped each other in excitement.

Kenan and Kel originally ran on Nickelodeon for four seasons from 1996 to 2000 and followed the trouble in which best friends Kenan Rockmore and Kel Kimble frequently found themselves.

The pair, who also had success in the 1997 film Good Burger, which was based on their skit of the same name in Nickelodeon sketch comedy show All That, are currently working on a sequel.

They previously reunited for a sketch on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in 2015, as well as teaming up again at the Emmys back in September.
