Chesney Hawkes wants to inspire England to victory over France after being hailed as the Three Lions’ One And Only good luck charm against Wales.

The 90s pop star belted out his classic hit on the Al Rayyan Stadium pitch in Qatar during half-time in England’s group stage win over the Dragons, and he wants to try and push Gareth Southgate’s team into the semi-finals.

After Sunday night’s victory over Senegal, England will face France this weekend in the last eight, and Chesney has been flown back to Qatar in a bid to give the players an extra nudge.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Monday, he said: ‘Here’s the plan. We’re trying to get FIFA to have me back for the halftime of the England/France game now.

‘The trouble is, it comes across as a little biased because I’m obviously a big England fan… So, we’re trying to get a French singer as well to sing for the French fans.

‘If that happens, I’ll stay here. I’m supposed to be going back to England tomorrow. I dunno, I’m living hour by hour!’

And while the footie-mad lad is happy to be involved in a small way, he’s keen to point out the credit goes to the likes of Saka, Kane and Bellingham for the results on the pitch.

‘I’m a massive football fan,’ he admitted. ‘I don’t feel the pressure. I’m just having a blast. I got to meet the team in the dugout the other day.

‘They were all so lovely to me, and of course I’m not gonna claim any of this success that they’re having here. Of course not! I’m just going along with the flow and having a blast.’

Although Chesney has been watching England’s progress in the tournament, This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield didn’t catch the last-16 win over Senegal.

Phil admitted: ‘I’ve gotta be honest, my girls were watching The Holiday – didn’t see the match. So, there you go. That’s what football’s like in our house.’

And Holly revealed: ‘I watched the first half and then I saw they’d got two goals and then I went to bed because I was very, very tired. But I woke up this morning and went, “Yeah! It’s coming home!” ‘
