Catching one of these shrimp-like pokémon may prove harder than expected, as Tatsugiri aren’t as harmless as they look.
Like Rotom, Tatsugiri doesn’t have any known evolutions but takes on different forms, with each having unique abilities that can suit all kinds of trainers in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Tatsugiri is one of the new pokemon introduced with Generation IX. It’s a dual-type Dragon/Water creature and its three different forms are Curly form, Droopy form, and Stretchy form.
Although all its forms look different, they all share the same strengths and weaknesses, meaning they are resistant to Steel, Fire, and Water-type attacks, but can take significant damage from Dragon and Fairy-type attacks.
Where to find Tatsugiri and how to catch them in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Once you open your pokédex and search for Tatsugiri you’ll see that it lives at Casseroya Lake, which is the huge body of water at the northwestern corner of Paldea.
If you’re lucky enough you might encounter it hopping around one of the isles, though there’s a chance it’ll jump back in the water if it sees you approaching.
Its level is usually 52, meaning that you’ll need to stock up on quick balls and net balls before you go on this lake trip. Dive balls are also very useful if you’re trying to catch a Tatsugiri in the water.
Moreover, you should make sure your character is level 50 or higher, and that you’ve got at least four gym badges, though that’s not mandatory if you’re a skilled player.
Tatsugiri spawns in big numbers in this area, which is also perfect for hunting the shiny for each of its forms.

What does each form of Tatsugiri do in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
You can find the three other forms of Tatsugiri at Lake Casseroya, so you won’t need to take long trips to catch ‘em all.
All three forms share the same average base stats and abilities, but each has different shiny versions, which makes this pokémon a key target for collectors.
Each form of Tatsugiri can also join the Water-type Dondozo in double battles and grant different boosts via Dondozo’s Dragon-type move called Order Up.
If you manage to catch Tatsugiri’s Curly form and perform Order Up, you’ll see that it will grant Dondozo a defence bonus, by feigning weakness to lure in prey.
On the other hand, if you catch the Stretchy form, Order Up grants Dondozo a speed bonus, as the shrimp-like creature will camouflage itself by inflating its throat sac.

Finally, Tatsugiri’s Droopy form will grant Dondozo an attack bonus, as it tricks opponents by playing dead, similar to its Curly form.
The Dondozo follows the orders of its Tatsugiri partner loyally and provides it with protection and shelter with its large mouth – in exchange for a greater chance at catching prey.
To raise Tatsugiri’s stats and build up its special attack and defence moves to new heights; you can consider Hyper Training as well as EV Training, which are very helpful late-game mechanics.
A giant Tatsugiri, together with a giant Dondozo, are known as the False Dragon Titan, one of the Titan pokémon found in the Paldea region and a major part of the Path of Legends quest.
