Ashton Kutcher has opened up on feeling desperate to ‘reclaim his health’ after losing his vision.
The 44-year-old star suffered a year-long battle with the autoimmune disease vasculitis in 2019 which left him unable to see, hear or walk and explained that he just ‘woke up one day’ with an array of problems.
Ashton – who is married to Family Guy star Mila Kunis – was diagnosed with the disease nearly two years ago, and previously candidly spoke about feeling ‘lucky to be alive’ after recovering from his health battle.
He’s now spoken out about other symptoms he suffered from, saying: ‘I woke up one day and was having vision issues, could hardly see.
‘Knocked out my hearing, which threw off my equilibrium, my balance
and I couldn’t walk.
‘I had vasculitis that you’re very well aware.

‘There’s a standard you become accustomed to in your life, like being
able to see clearly.
‘And then suddenly you can’t see, like you have this occlusion and you can’t see.’
The That 70s Show actor continued: ‘And then, like, “Why are you not f**king talking louder because I can’t hear you?” You want to reclaim the health that you once had!’
Ashton – who managed to complete a marathon in New York City last month – went on to explain that he now has has a mental attitude towards life since he made a full recovery which enables him to keep going.

Speaking on the premiere episode of Paramount+’s new health series The Checkup With Dr David Argus, he added: ‘Part of it is this mental thing I have around achieving a full comeback from waking up at the hospital.
‘I was unable to walk and I was like, wait a second, if I can go from not
being able to walk to running a marathon in a three-year span, then I
can let that be a part of the past and be like, “I’m back. I’m good.”‘
Ashton has not disclose specifics of his diagnosis but, as stated by the NHS, vasculitis involves the inflammation of the blood vessels, with the immune system attacking healthy blood vessels and causing them to become swollen and narrow.

Elsewhere in the new Paramount+ series, Ashton reflects on a scary moment in which he almost lost his brother Michael, who was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy as a child, a disease which meant his heart was four times the size it should be.
Speaking to the camera, the No Strings Attached performer says: ‘So then my dad comes, picks me up, and it’s like, “We’re going to go see your brother” and I’m like … everything is not ok.’

Welling up, Ashton continues as he wipes away tears: ‘And he flatlines in the room. And I know that noise because now I’ve been visiting occasionally and watching the thing go and it flatlines out.
‘And they’re like, “You’ve got to…” and they’re grabbing me and they take me out and I’m like, What the hell is going [on]?’
