Kevin McCloud couldn’t contain his astonishment when he paid a visit to an extraordinary home for Grand Designs: House of the Year, revelling at the sheer size of the property.

The presenter even remarked that the living area in house would have been big enough for an aircraft – an observation that the homeowner agreed with.

On tonight’s episode of the Channel 4 programme, the Royal Institute of British Architects will decide which home in Britain will be declared the new House of the Year for 2022, after assessing the best architecture the nation has to offer.

One of the homes selected by RIBA for the shortlist, shown in an exclusive clip shared by Metro.co.uk, boasted an enormous living room with large windows flooding the space with natural light, further highlighting just how unconventionally big a room it is.

In the clip, Kevin, 63, was left in awe as he walked through the door, exclaiming: ‘Woah, goodness me. It’s a big space, isn’t it?!’

It turned out the ceiling of the room measured at eight metres high, allowing plenty of space for a luxurious kitchen and a massive area for relaxing, adorned with porcelain floor tiles.

The judges determining which property would receive the coveted title of House of the Year were ‘delighted in the surprising scale of this place’ – and it’s pretty apparent why.

‘This is more like a hangar,’ Kevin remarked, as he took a look around the jaw-dropping room.

‘Yeah, aircraft hangar scale, which means that everything implemented has also got to be of that scale. So kitchen units, fireplace, sofa, would look a bit out of place in a conventional…,’ the homeowner responded.

Kevin then expressed how amazed he was by the size of the furnishings placed in the room, including a sofa worthy of an enormous dinner party.

‘You’re right. I’ve just realised the sofa seats 19. That’s one of the largest you can buy, that wood burner, and yet it actually looks relatively small!’ he said.

Nonetheless, we’re sure that wood burner is capable of warming up that large living room!

Do you think this impressive home is worthy of being dubbed House of the Year 2022? Have your say below.

Grand Designs: House of the Year returns tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
