Jamie Oliver fans are in uproar over the ‘expense’ of festive dishes whipped up in programme Easy Christmas ‘given the current financial climate.’

The two-part Channel 4 show saw the TV chef cooking Christmas classics, including a ‘gnarly’ way to bake a turkey, that promised to be ‘simple’ and ‘no-fuss’.

Among the recipes served up by the 47-year-old were crispy duck and noodles, as well as short rib beef creation, with viewers complaining they were ‘expensive’ ingredients.

Channel 4 watchers also complained about the cooking time for a vegetarian filo pie, explaining it was too long when the nation is cutting back on energy bills due to sky-rocketing costs.

They flocked to Twitter to air their grievances, with one moaning: ‘I don’t see how that expensive roast duck is a good idea given the current financial climate – the added ingredients alone will cost a bomb given their quality. How about some one-pot recipes that take half an hour that cost £8 for 4? Read the room guys! #JamiesEasyChristmas.’

A fan remarked the food ‘looks great but I tell you what it’s not that easy and you’d to remortgage for the ingredients ,’ a sentiment which was also echoed by another who commented: ‘Totes love a bit of @jamieoliver but putting anything in the oven for 4 hours feels crazy given the cost of energy.’

Did @jamieoliver film #Jamieseasychristmas before the #CostOfLivingCrisis? Nothing easy in buying the number of ingredients in his pie!

‘F**k off Jamie with your four hours in the oven short beef rib recipe. Tone deaf in the middle of a cost of living and energy crisis. #JamiesEasyChristmas,’ a fourth wrote.

Others commented that there was nothing ‘easy’ in the dishes due to the cost and the number of ingredients involved and were aghast that ribs were considered a ‘cheap cut.’

As well as his Christmas cooking special, Jamie, who shares five children with wife Jools, is taking over guest editing duties on Radio 4’s Today programme.

The BBC said at the time: ‘Jamie will use his programme to look for big ideas to improve child health and explore if doing good is good business.’

In a video posted to BBC Radio 4’s Twitter, Jamie announced: ‘[I have] the most amazing opportunity to look back over the last 20 years and the work I’ve been doing.’
