The new recruits for SAS: Who Dares Wins 2023 will be put through their paces in the Vietnamese jungle.

The eighth series will see Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham, who was a member of the Special Air Service (SAS) for 27 years, Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox and Rudy Reyes return, while former Special Forces Operator Chris Oliver joins the team.

The trio will be putting the 20 new contestants, who have not yet been revealed, through grueling challenges in the Channel 4 survival show.

Among the painstaking tasks is the jungle phase of SAS selection, which in the latest installment of the programme will take place in North Vietnam, and it promises to be the ‘toughest course to date.’

Billy, who reached the rank of Sergeant Major during his career, 61, said: ‘Having been a DS on actual military SAS selection and Chief Instructor at the British Army Jungle Warfare Training School in Brunei, there is nobody better placed than myself to lead the recruits through this treacherous environment.

‘I’m looking forward to challenging and encouraging the new recruits. However, I will not be accepting any excuses, this will be the toughest course to date.’

Meanwhile, Chris joins SAS: Who Dares Wins after a long career in the military, during which he served within the elite Special Boat Service alongside fellow DS Foxy.

Chris, 40, was deployed on operations to Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland, Oman, Iraq and Afghanistan, before leaving the military in 2015.

Explaining how he will approach the show, he said: ‘I will bring a hard-hitting intensity to the SAS: Who Dares Wins DS, being a fiery character with a very passionate approach to military training, with respect being at the forefront of everything I do.

‘The values I intend to instill in the recruits, as part of the DS, have been forged on operations where we have lost good operators, so they had better be under no illusions – anyone who doesn’t play by the rules will pay the price.’

Foxy, 46, also spoke about what the new recruits can expect – and it’s certainly not going to be a walk in the park.

He described the jungle as ‘one of the most intimidating environments in the world’ and said it will be the ‘most intense and challenging’ course yet.

The celebrity spin-off of SAS: Who Dares Wins is also due to hit our screens, with I’m A Celebrity’s Matt Hancock, who was paid £45,000 for the gig, among the cast.

While the official line-up for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2023 has yet to be confirmed, it’s been reported that Hancock, 44, will star alongside the likes of James Argent and Gareth Gates.

SAS: Who Dares Wins will return to Channel 4 in January 2023.
