The Traitors star Ivan Brett has been booted out of the competition… but he made the most of his final moment on the show to make a savage dig at Tom Elderfield’s expense, much to viewers’ delight.
Tonight, game-loving Ivan, 32, became the latest participant to be eliminated, losing out on a life-changing amount of money at the end of the deception-based series.
The author’s elimination came amid growing suspicion that he was a ‘Traitor’, which would have meant that he had the power to ‘murder’ other contestants during the night.
Tom, 24, was one of the most vocal suspects of Ivan, convincing several of the other people staying at the castle that Ivan was indeed a Traitor and should be axed from the programme.
However, as Ivan stood next to host Claudia Winkleman, he revealed that he was actually a ‘Faithful’ – while delivering a brutal line mocking Tom’s career as a magician and his very wrong guess about his identity in the game.
‘No hard feelings. I came here to play a game, and today that’s exactly what I got. This was fun. Tom – this was your big flourish, and here’s the prestige. That was not my card. I’m a Faithful,’ Ivan said, as Tom held his head in his hands in despair at his error.

In magic, the ‘prestige’ is an old-fashioned term used to describe the third stage of an act, as explained in the 2006 film The Prestige starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale.
So Ivan’s ridiculing nod to Tom’s career as he was delivered the bitter blow of being eliminated sparked applause from fans, who commended his brilliant use of language in his final few moments on screen.
‘I’m sorry but Ivan’s exit? Iconique,’ one person tweeted, as another wrote: ‘Ivan ate Tom up.’
‘YES IVAN YOU TELL HIM,’ another remarked, while a viewer stated: ‘Ivan single-handedly destroying Tom’s career.’
After Ivan’s exit, Tom appeared to immediately regret having been so sure that Ivan was a Traitor, claiming that he’d been leaning towards selecting Hannah for the boot.
Another contestant told Tom that he ‘can’t read people as well as he thought’, before Tom expressed his upset over his huge blunder.
‘I think people are well aware because of my career I can be very manipulating, I can manipulate people. I can convince people to do what I need them to do. But I was wrong,’ he said.
Let’s see how much further Tom can get in the competition after his massive mistake!
The Traitors returns tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
