Kirstie Alley regretted revealing bikini body on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006: ‘It was so stupid’-Meghna Amin-Entertainment – Metro
Alley revealed her 75lb weight loss on the chat show.
A resurfaced interview has shed light on how Kirstie Alley felt about revealing her bikini body, after losing 75 lbs (32 kg), on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006.
The Cheers actress’ children revealed the sad news of her death aged 71 on Monday evening, in a heart breaking statement where she was described as ‘fierce and loving’.
Former co-stars and friends have since shared their tributes and fondest memories of the late actress.
In 2006, Alley appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and revealed her bikini body after the weight loss, but four years later, she told Larry King that she regretted it.
‘Let me tell you something very stupid about myself,’ she began.
‘This is what I said when I did that: no one is allowed to take photographs.’

She chuckled, adding: ‘I lived in 1938. And I thought, well, there’s no photographs, so this will be the end. I’ll walk out, I go blah blah blah, and that’s the end of that.
‘So stupid!’
Alley continued: ‘All they have to do is take a frame shot. Little did I know that this would be all over YouTube, it’s had millions of hits.’
King replied: ‘It had a life of its own!’
‘It does, it was its own show,’ Alley agreed.

She then confirmed it had never been Oprah’s idea, saying: ‘Of course it wasn’t Oprah’s idea — she doesn’t have stupid ideas!
‘It was my idea. I just thought if I could get myself to come out here in a bikini, then I know that I am liberated. And then I realized, “Oh my god! Now I have to live with this, the rest of my life.”
‘I made some errors in my life.’
She added that ‘she was about to cry’, when walking out on the show, saying that she held it together and held back the tears, or ‘it would have been a train wreck.’

At the time, the Look Who’s Talking actress said on Oprah’s chat show: ‘I feel happy with the way I look and feel. For me, that’s the greatest thing that’s happened.
‘The bikini thing is neither here nor there, other than the fact, you know, I am 55 years old. So I thought – come on, we are all good enough. And we look good enough. And we are not our bodies.’
Alley’s loved ones, son William ‘True’ Stevenson and daughter Lillie Price Stevenson confirmed their loss in a lengthy tribute, describing their mother as ‘fierce and loving’.
‘To all our friends, far and wide around the world….,’ it began. ‘We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.
‘She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.
‘As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.’
‘We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care,’ they continued.

‘Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.
‘We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.
‘With love always, True and Lillie Parker.’
