Matt Lucas might have bid farewell to The Great British Bake Off, but he’s already teasing a new project up his sleeve with his former Little Britain co-star David Walliams.

In a statement released this week, Matt, 48, announced that he had decided to quit Bake Off after struggling to balance his many work commitments.

‘It’s become clear to me that I can’t present both ‘Fantasy Football League’ and ‘Bake Off’ alongside all my other projects. So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else,’ he said.

The comedian is clearly keeping busy, as revealed by a cryptic post he shared on Twitter and Instagram, showing a picture of himself sitting with his frequent collaborator David, 51.

In the photo, Matt and David are sitting at a table with their arms around each other, both with laptops placed in front of them.

‘Writing,’ the caption reads… hinting that they could have a new project in the works.

Matt’s former Bake Off co-host Noel Fielding expressed his excitement over the photo of the duo, commenting on Instagram: ‘Yay ! x x x x.’

‘Let’s goooooo,’ added YouTuber Arron Crascall, while former GBBO contestant Amanda Georgiou added: ‘Now I am excited again. Looking forward to this next chapter.’

Given David’s future on Britain’s Got Talent is currently up in the air, it could be a possibility that he may also have some more time on his hands to collaborate with Matt.

Last month, it emerged that while filming BGT in 2020, the judge made derogatory comments about individuals who were auditioning, which were recorded on his mic and leaked in a transcript obtained by The Guardian.

In an apology, he said: ‘These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.’

While he is due to appear on the festive special Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician, a spokesperson for the talent competition has confirmed that the ‘judging panel for Britain’s Got Talent 2023 will be announced in due course’.

‘It’s still very much up in the air at the moment on whether David is going to take part in next year’s show. No decision, though, has been made as yet,’ an insider said.

The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on All 4.
