Serena Williams made a surprise cameo in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary to celebrate her friends’ love for one another.

The first three episodes of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s six-part series landed on the streaming service on Thursday, with the happy couple sharing a glimpse at their young son, Archie, three, as well as revealing how they met.

In episode three, Wimbledon champion Serena makes a casual appearance where she praises her friends’ adoration for each other while reflecting on their wedding in May 2018.

‘I’m looking at it through the lens of my friend, not a princess,’ she exclaimed. ‘They as a couple are so tight and rely on each other so much and are each other’s best, best, best friends.

‘I was just super excited.’

Of course, Serena is a long-time supporter of Meghan having led the celebrity support for her after she and Hary’s Oprah Winfrey interview last year.

In an Instagram post, the tennis star cheered on the royal for being open about her mental health and how she considered suicide.

At the time, Serena wrote: ‘Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she experienced.

‘I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women of colour to minimise us, to break us down and to demonise us.’

The Wimbledon champ continued: ‘The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimisation are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.

‘I want Meghan’s daughter, my daughter and your daughter to live in a society that is driven by respect. Keep in your memory the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.’

Elsewhere in the Harry & Meghan documentary, Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland recalled the moment she heard the couple were dating.

‘When she told me, we’re on the phone and she says, mummy I’m going out with Prince Harry,’ she remembered.

‘I started whispering “Oh my God!”’

During that first call, Meghan told her mother she needed to keep her relationship a secret.

Doria went on: ‘I remember when I first met him (Harry) too, a 6’1 handsome man with red hair, really great manners. It was just really nice and they looked really happy together, like he was the one.

‘Once it was announced that they were together it seemed kind of like a novelty.’

Harry & Meghan is available to stream on Netflix.
