A worthy achievement.

It might be almost 30 years since Mariah Carey first blessed the world’s ears with the melodious tune of All I Want For Christmas Is You, but it’s still storming the charts to this day.

The singer might have recently shut down speculation that she’s dubbed herself the ‘Queen of Christmas’, but let’s face it – she certainly is in our eyes.

Following the continued popularity of her romantic, festive song, the 53-year-old has achieved a number one on the Official Singles Chart in the UK, ending Taylor Swift’s six-week reign in the top spot with Anti-Hero.

What may come as a surprise is that this is only the second time All I Want For Christmas Is You has soared to number one in the UK.

The first time this happened was in 2020, prompting the musician to release a video celebrating her achievement.

In the clip shared two years ago, Mariah sat in front of a cosy-looking fireplace decorated with Christmas stockings, baubles and garlands, while she wore a supremely festive onesie and held her Official Charts trophy aloft proudly.

‘So I’m sitting here with this, and it is a trophy for All I Want For Christmas Is You being number one on the UK chart for the very first time, thanks to you,’ she said at the time.

‘I just wanted to take a minute, I’m here in my Christmas onesie, hanging out, and I just said, I can’t not thank the fans and let them know that I know what a huge deal this is and we need to be festive and celebrate together, because you made this happen.

‘I wrote this little song, my first Christmas song I ever wrote, and I’m just so proud and thankful and full of gratitude that it’s finally number one in the UK on the main charts. The Official Chart.

‘So really, I can’t thank you enough, have the merriest Christmas ever, I love you, L for L, and all I want for Christmas? Pretty much says it all. Merry Christmas, or Happy Christmas, as you guys say. Bye bye!’

All I Want For Christmas isn’t the only classic Christmas to find itself crawling back up the charts, with Wham!’s Last Christmas currently settled at number three.

Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John’s Merry Christmas just trails it at number four, with Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree at number six and Michael Buble’s It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas in the 10th spot.

We suspect Mariah could achieve plenty more festive number ones with her iconic track in the years to come!
