Brendan Fraser sparks debate over how people have been saying his name for years: ‘No one ever gets it right’-Tori Brazier-Entertainment – Metro
Turns out a rather popular TV show may have been influencing pronunciation.

Brendan Fraser has revealed that he too is a celebrity whose name lots of us have been pronouncing wrong all these years.
We’ve heard it in the past from people including Alicia Silverstone, Charlize Theron and Lindsay Lohan, who shocked fans with how she says her surname earlier this year.
Even Adele dropped the bombshell that we apparently get just those two syllables incorrect as well (although Piers Morgan insisted it was her mistake because ‘she’s from Tottenham’).
Now, The Whale actor Brendan has shared his pain over years of mispronunciations in a new interview with fellow actor, former Airheads co-star and long-time pal Adam Sandler.
And yes, even Adam doesn’t get it right!
In the filmed interview posted on Tuesday as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, the duo were seen in an exchange over Brendan’s name when ex Saturday Night Live star Adam went to say it in an over-the-top announcement, before pausing to check.

Brendan confirmed his surname Fraser rhymes with ‘razor’ as he made a shaving motion and is pronounced ‘like the thing you shave with’.
It turns out Adam – and plenty of other fans from the looks of things – had always said Fraser like ‘Frasier’, with a ‘zsur’ in there at the end for many Americans, just like the popular TV series starring Kelsey Grammar.
‘I’m gonna say Frasier anyway, let me say Frasier,’ responded Adam, with Brendan then giving up and admitting: ‘Oh f**k it. No one’s ever gotten my name right.’
Adam then announced: ‘Brendan Fraser!’, the correct way, before adding: ‘See? It didn’t sound right!’
‘It felt good though!’ Brendan exclaimed in reply.
‘Today I learned it’s pronounced “Brendan Fraser” (as in blazer, laser, taser). And I just think that if we’re all rooting for him and lovin’ the guy– as we SHOULD– we should also start saying his name right,’ posted one fan on Twitter.
‘Brendan Fraser’s last name pronunciation has me in a damn blender,’ admitted another.
Another added: ‘Brendan Fraser has done nothing but provide us with hours and hours of entertainment and as if all that happened to him wasn’t enough it turns out we’ve all been mispronouncing his name for 30 years too.’
However, some were all over the correct pronunciation, with one commenting: ‘Here’s your daily reminder that you’ve been pronouncing Brendan Fraser’s last name wrong. Frazer like “razor”; not “Tossed salad and scrambled eggs,”’ with that classic Frasier reference thrown in.
‘Had a dream last night I was lecturing someone that his name is Brendan Fraser like razor not Frasier like the sitcom. Why am I annoying even when I sleep,’ mused another.

Brendan, who has been raking in critical acclaim for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s latest film The Whale – including Oscar buzz – recently brought two of his sons to a screening of the film in a rare outing together.
He has also been spilling the beans on his work for 1997 comedy favourite George of the Jungle, revealing how brutal it was for him staying in shape, as well as why he decided not to return for the sequel.
