Kevin McHale calls out Glee docu-series exploring show’s ‘curse’: ‘Don’t make me speak on this again’-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Kevin McHale appeared to have branded the upcoming Glee tell-all ‘trash’ on social media.

The all-singing and dancing series ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, following a group of diverse students competing as a show choir while dealing with the pressures of high school.

Lea Michele led the cast as Rachel Berry, alongside Naya Rivera, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley and Dianna Argon.

However, despite numerous award nominations and wins, the program was marred by devastating deaths and scandals.

The Price of Glee – which is confirmed to air on January 16 – will delve into the behind-the-scenes issues, events and drama that overshadowed the musical comedy-drama, including allegations that Michele created a toxic environment on set and the devastating deaths of Monteith, Rivera and Mark Salling.

McHale – who played Artie Abrams on the show – had his say on the documentary after TV writer Ashley Ray-Harris tweeted that the Glee cast and crew would be ‘involved’ in the project.

Re-sharing her tweet, McHale wrote: ‘Show me this ‘cast’ you speak of,” he tweeted.

The 34-year-old later slammed the series by adding a trash can emoji.

In a separate tweet, the star expressed: ‘This was the nice version, ftr. Don’t make me speak on this again.’

Monteith, who played heartthrob Finn Hudson, died on July 13, 2013 of an overdose and Salling died by suicide at the age of 35 in 2018 after he pleaded guilty to possessing images of child sex abuse.

Rivera died aged 33 after disappearing during a boating trip with her son, Josey, four, and her death was later ruled as accidental drowning.

The trailer – which dropped on December 9 – begins with a voice-over explaining the global popularity of Glee.

Over images of red carpets and paparazzi shots, they remark: ‘Glee was a phenomenon. The audience couldn’t get enough of it’, while another comments: ‘It took all these people and made them into stars.’

Viewers are then told that by 2020, Monteith, Rivera and Salling had died, with a contributor telling the documentary makers: ‘I don’t want to say the c word, the curse word, but that’s where my mind goes.’

The Price of Glee will be available to stream on Discovery+ in the UK from January 16, 2023.
