Selena Gomez delighted Saturday Night Live audiences after making a surprise appearance at the end of Steve Martin and Martin Short’s opening monologue.

Martin and Short hosted the latest episode of the sketch show on December 10, but they weren’t alone, with their Only Murders in the Building co-star joining them on stage in an unexpected cameo.

The pair concluded their introduction for the episode by reading their eulogies for each other, with Martin ending his tribute by saying: ‘Now that Marty’s gone, who will I ever work with?’

It was at that moment that Gomez burst onto the scene to ask: ‘What about me?!’

The trio then embraced each other in a hug, with audiences across the globe no doubt cooing over the sweet moment.

Fans were over the moon to see the threesome back together and celebrated their reunion on social media.

‘This week’s #snl has me smiling the entire time,’ one wrote. ‘Steve Martin and Martin Short are a national treasure. Have them do more things in conjunction with Selena Gomez. Who knew they would be a dream trio.’

‘There’s our Selena Gomez cameo!’ another enthused. ‘Kudos to her for just popping up at the very end as I’m sure she knew she would get a lot of applause and response and overshadow them somewhat. Nice way to go out.’

Only Murders in the Building was renewed for a third season in July, with all three actors returning.

While the official plot and an air date yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that Paul Rudd will join the cast as a prominent part.

In August, Martin revealed he is considering taking a step back from projects when Only Murders eventually comes to an end.

‘We were very happy just doing the live show,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter about his live show with co-star Short.

‘There may be a natural end to that – somebody gets sick, somebody just wears out – but I wouldn’t do it without Marty. When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others.

‘I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.’

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays in the US on NBC.
