WWE legends The New Day made history at NXT Deadline and their partner Big E had paid an emotional tribute to the duo.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defeated the UK’s own Pretty Deadly – Kit Wilson and Elton Prince – on Saturday night to claim the NXT Tag Team Championships and the victory was a meaningful one for a number of reasons.
First, it means The New Day, which has traditionally included all three members, are now Triple Crown Champions, having held the Raw, SmackDown and NXT titles – making them only the second team to do this after The Revival, now known as FTR in All Elite Wrestling.
It also marks the first time Kofi and Xavier have held any kind of title in NXT, with Xavier previously part of the show when it relaunched as a third show back in 2013.
The win also means Kofi has made individual history too, as he’s the only wrestler in WWE history to hold every active tag team title, a run which dates back to the now defunct WWE World Tag Team Championship, which were scrapped in 2009.
Their teammate Big E, who is currently out of action after suffering a broken neck in March 2022, responded to the epic win after Saturday night’s premium live event.

He hailed the ‘absurdly talented pair’ and sent a sweet message of congratulations to his friends.
‘What an absurdly talented pair of partners! I won the wrestling lottery when I got to team with these two,’ he tweeted. ‘Massive congrats, my brothers! Love y’all to death.’
The match also received high praise from Tommaso Ciampa, who wrote: ‘I’m 100% bias. But New Day vs Pretty Deadly is the most fun I’ve had watching a tag team match in a long time. #NXTDeadline’
Elsewhere at NXT Deadline, Isla Dawn stole a win from fellow Scotswoman Alba Fyre, and Bron Breakker continued his run as NXT Champion with a victory over Apollo Crews.
The night also saw the first ever Iron Survivor Challenge matches, with Roxanne Perez winning the women’s bout, while Grayson Waller emerged as the winner in the men’s match.
WWE NXT airs Tuesday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
