Will Smith and Tom Hanks among shock Golden Globes 2023 snubs after nominations announced-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro
Some huge names were missing…

The Golden Globes 2023 nominations have been announced, with all eyes on who could be scooping up the top prizes in January.
The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once were among the most-nominated in the film categories, while Abbott Elementary, Netflix’s Dahmer and The White Lotus have been tipped to win big in the TV awards.
George and Mayan Lopez were on hand to confirm the nods – but there were some huge names snubbed from the categories, including Will Smith, Tom Hanks, the stars of Jordan Peele’s Nope and the Amsterdam cast.
Emancipation, Will’s first project following the Oscars slap drama, landed on Apple TV+ last week after previously premiering in cinemas, and followed the reigning best actor winner as an enslaved man who managed to escape to freedom.
Although it has been warmly received by critics so far, he was missing from the list of nominations for best actor in a drama, with Austin Butler, Brendan Fraser, Bill Nighy, Jeremy Pope and Hugh Jackman battling it out for the top gong instead.
Emancipation also failed to make a dent in any other categories at the Golden Globes, but could still see some success during awards season.

The Whale has been expected to make a clean sweep during awards season but only nabbed one nomination – best actor for Brendan Fraser – while Viola Davis scooped up the only nod for The Woman King.
Elvis racked up three mentions, including one for Austin Butler in the starring role, but Tom Hanks was not among them for his take on the musician’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Controversially, there were no female filmmakers tipped for best director at the upcoming ceremony, with all five movies in the category coming from males.
Instead, James Cameron was nominated for his highly-anticipated Avatar sequel, alongside Martin McDonagh for The Banshees Of Inisherin, and Steven Spielberg for The Fabelmans, while Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert received a nod for Everything Everywhere All At Once, as did Baz Luhrmann for Elvis.

Filmmaker Jordan Peele was missed off the list for his horror effort, Nope, as Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya failed to earn nods in their respective acting categories.
Despite being admired by critics, David O Russell’s Amsterdam was also among the surprise snubs, with the star-studded line-up – including Rami Malek, Christian Bale and John David Washington – not recognized.
However, it wasn’t all bad for the cast, as Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy earned best actress nominations for Babylon and The Menu respectively.
