Don’t go typing the name Andrew Tate in your Apex Legends chat, unless you want to get suspended from the game.

Many multiplayer games have put in the effort to discourage players from using abusive language against each other, in a bid to reduce toxicity.

For example, Activision announced it has banned over 500,000 Call Of Duty accounts as of September, to ‘scrub’ the game’s global database and remove toxic users.

League Of Legends has also removed its /all chat option, to prevent players from talking to enemy teams and, more recently, implemented a profanity filter.

In most cases these filters work just fine but many players have received undeserving penalties due to the system misunderstanding what they’re typing.

This is exactly what happened to an Apex Legends player who typed ‘Andrew Tate cringe’ in response to their teammates making misogynistic remarks – one of the things that the internet celeb is famous for.

The player posted a photo of the email they received from EA on Reddit, explaining that they wrote the phrase in the chat after they heard their teammates praising Tate and saying that ‘women belong in the kitchen.’

The email states that their suspension will last for 168 hours, which is exactly one week, meaning that they’ll miss out a huge chunk of the ongoing Wintertide festive special.

Many fellow Apex Legends players immediately advised the original poster to avoid using the game’s text chat, though many were also concerned with the name ‘Andrew Tate’ being blacklisted.

Some found it surprising that some of the ‘most offensive’ gamertags they’ve seen are not detected by Apex Legends, but Andrew Tate is blacklisted.

The same person even claimed that if the original poster were to change their account name to ‘Andrew Tate cringe’ they wouldn’t have been suspended.

There were some Redditors that suggested that it’s actually the word ‘tate’ that’s blacklisted and not Andrew Tate, though none of them were sure why.

At least this Apex Legends player wasn’t penalised for typing ‘woof, woof’, though, as happened to one League Of Legends fan.
