Kate Chastain has supported Captain Lee Rosbach’s decision to leave Below Deck after a whopping 10 seasons.

On Monday night’s episode, the 73-year-old pulled his crew into a meeting where he explained that he had been struggling with his health following an operation.

He confirmed that he would be departing shortly while a replacement steps in – with many fans convinced that Captain Sandy Yawn will be the one coming on board.

Following the instalment, Kate, who served as Captain Lee’s chief stew for six seasons, was questioned about his exit from the wheelhouse.

During her appearance on the Watch What Happens Live After Show, the former yachtie – who is expecting her first child – joked of her response: ‘I just said, “So… time for babysitting?” I really did, they live not far from me!

‘You know, I think he had a great run – 10 years. It was his choice, for health reasons, and I think he’s pleased with it.’

Captain Lee was part of the original crew when the first season set sail in 2013, and has appeared in nearly every episode since.

He has also become a hit with fans, who have proclaimed him the ‘Stud of the Sea’.

However, before filming on the current series began, he underwent surgery on his back and had been working hard to regain his fitness.

‘I am a little incapacitated,’ he told his staff in the premiere. ‘I have a nerve issue on my left side so I am going to depend on you guys in some areas.’

He could then be seen struggling with his mobility and using a cane on deck, leading to a tough decision.

‘As you guys know, I’ve been struggling with my mobility, and it’s been hard,’ he told the crew. ‘My injury, it’s getting worse. The left side of my body, I don’t feel anything.

‘I expected a lot more progress than I’m experiencing, and the most frustrating part about it is, I can’t do a God damn thing about it, and it’s hard.

‘And I’ve let you guys down, and for that, I apologize. So I’ve made a decision to leave the boat.’

Taking to Twitter after the episode aired, Captain Lee offered concerned fans an update on his health.

‘What a night eh? Thanks for tuning in, I appreciate it so much,’ he penned. ‘You guys know the drill, gym in the am and to those I missed tonight, catch you on the flip side.
