The first trailer for Scream 6 – or Scream VI – is here and we’re not in Woodsboro anymore…

The slasher sequel, starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera as sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter, was announced earlier this year, following the huge success of the ‘requel’.

Courteney Cox has also reprised her role as Gale Weathers, however Neve Campbell confirmed that she would not be returning as iconic final girl Sidney Prescott due to a salary dispute.

In a very brief teaser, a cryptic message warns, ‘In a city of millions, no one hears you scream,’ as we’re reintroduced to Sam and Tara in the Big Apple.

They are joined by pals Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding respectively) as they head out for Halloween celebrations, boarding a subway full of people in creepy costumes portraying some of the biggest horror film characters.

Sidenote: Wouldn’t you just forgo Halloween after this much death and destruction?

However, their subway ride takes a turn when they realize that they’re surrounded by a selection of figures in Ghostface masks.

As their journey continues, one hooded figure gets closer to Mindy until they are face-to-face, with the trailer ending just as she lets out a screech.

The latest instalment in the horror franchise will be in cinemas on March 10, 2023.

Unsurprisingly, fans were living for the teaser and shared their delight at the snipper on social media.

One yelled: ‘I’m ready for some epic subway mayhem!’

Another agreed: ‘YUP. CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY. I AM CRYING. THANK YOU @ScreamMovies.’

‘That teaser gave me full body chills,’ a follower replied. ‘Perfect thing to wake up to!’

As a Twitter user added: ‘This teaser alone just scared me… I can only imagine what the movie will do.’

Honestly? Same.

Melissa recently opened up about what fans could expect from the upcoming flick, and teased that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have ramped up the blood, the scares and the screams.

‘There was a saying on set because Matt and Tyler were always asking for more blood and more sweat,’ she said in a new interview with Collider

‘They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more.’

‘With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been up until that point and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay,’ she added.

‘But with this one, they were like, “We’re going all out”.’

Scream 6 is in cinemas on March 10, 2023.
