You can now get a taste of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer without putting your hands deep in your pockets… for five days.

Now has suddenly become a good time to decide whether to add Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to your Christmas list, as Activision is giving free access to the game’s multiplayer starting today, December 15.

Despite the game dethroning Elden Ring in terms of sales, there are still a few players who are not convinced it’s worth it’s £70 price tag.

If talks of bugs, glitches, and other problems have put you off from getting it so far, now is the time to jump in and judge the most controversial part of the Modern Warfare 2 experience for yourself.

You won’t get access to the game’s campaign mode though, if that’s what you were hoping for, as it’s reserved for those who are willing to pay for the full game.

When can you play Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer for free?

The free access period officially kicks off on Thursday, December 15 and ends on Monday, December 19 6pm in the UK.

Activision states that it’s only a ‘limited portion’ of the multiplayer experience. Still, you’ll get access to three maps, including Farm 18, El Asilo, and the latest one added from the Season 1 Reloaded update: Shipment.

You’ll also get the chance to compete in various modes such as Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, and Kill Confirmed, including the third person variants of each.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play the first Special Ops Raid, as it’s part of the campaign, which is not included in the five-day grace period.

We first talked about the possibility of the multiplayer being made free a few weeks ago, when notorious Call Of Duty leaker Tom Henderson claimed he’d received a tip from Activision sources.

Many players suggested that Activision should make the multiplayer aspect free-to-play and only charge for the campaign, as a solution to reducing the game’s cost.

As for Warzone 2, things are not looking as bright, as its stat tracking feature has been hit with a delay, with no release date in sight.

This means there’s no telling when it will be added to the battle royale, with many speculating there’s a chance it won’t happen until season 2.

Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
