The Traitors star Theo welled up as he spoke about being ‘accepted’ as a gay man by his co-stars.

Theo is among the Faithfuls trying to ‘banish’ the Traitors in the hit BBC One programme, who in turn are ‘murdering’ contestants one by one to get closer to the £120,000 cash prize.

The group, who are all living together in a lavish Scottish castle, had a night off the roundtable, and were treated instead to a dinner party complete with champagne, but that didn’t mean tensions weren’t running high.

As they sat down in the opulent dining room, the cast reflected on their reasons for joining the mystery show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, with Amanda revealing she wanted to ‘digest’ herself again after looking after children and grandchildren.

Meanwhile, beloved Andrea, who was branded a ‘gay icon’ after discussing her 26-year relationship with her late partner, got emotional as she told the team she’d ‘love’ for them all to be her friends.

‘It’s a joy for me and I invite you all to be in my heart,’ she remarked, before saying that she’d gained ‘so many new grandchildren.’

Traitor Wilfred couldn’t even contain his emotions, after admitting he was struggling to keep his deception secret, and rushed over to the 72-year-old for a cuddle.

Theo said the ‘main thing’ for him was ‘acceptance’, adding: ‘It’s never easy being gay. We’re in a modern world and it’s still really tough. A big thing knowing that you can accepted no matter what. It just goes to show you can be yourself and a bunch of strangers will accept you.’

In a tender moment, he also described newcomer Kieran as ‘like a father figure’, saying he’d ‘never had that in my life.’

But the heartwarming bonding was, of course, rocked by a game, in which Claudia asked each contestant who they trusted the most.

Maddy was the only player not named and she was given the choice to leave the competition with £3,000 or forgo the money and remain in the castle.

The actress ultimately plumped for the latter but did express regret for not taking up the offer of the sizeable cash prize.

The Traitors continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
