The Traitors star Alex Gray had her suspicions about 72-year-old Andrea ahead of her brutal exit.

In the BBC gameshow that’s got the nation hooked, 26-year-old Alex gave it her all until she was murdered by Wilfred Webster and Amanda Lovett, after the presenter and actress declined to join their cult.

But there was one clue in her invitation to become a Traitor that stood out to Alex and led to her believing there was something fishy about retiree Andrea.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Alex explained how the language used on the note, describing her as ‘strong, charismatic and assertive’, was previously used by Andrea.

‘I did suspect Andrea, I won’t lie. When I saw the writing on that letter for why they chose me as a Traitor, I was like, that’s something Andrea would say,’ Alex began.

‘And then she said it at the roundtable! She was like, “I would use those words to describe you”, and I was thinking, “Hmm… are you trying to cover something up?”. It did confuse me a little bit.’

Ultimately, not accepting to become a Traitor was likely Alex’s downfall (Picture: BBC)

Indeed, Andrea did previously hail Alex an ‘assertive, strong woman’, and she explained at the dreaded roundtable in episode 7 that she had ‘characteristics’ that would be appealing to the Traitors.

As for the real Traitors, Alyssa Chan was on Alex’s radar before she was banished after Wilfred brutally threw her under the bus.

‘I was onto Alyssa quite early, even though it takes a while for everyone to jump on board with an idea, especially if it’s someone they don’t suspect. No one really suspected her but I clocked onto things she did and knew she was a Traitor,’ Alex said.

And while Alex didn’t catch on to Amanda’s Traitor antics due to her constantly being in ‘game mode’, she was hot on Wilfred’s heels.

‘Amanda, to be honest, I did notice as she wasn’t as involved. But she just played the game so well, it was hard to have ever known it was her. Wilf, I definitely did suspect him and I really regret not having voted for him in episode 7 because I was going to, but I knew he would murder me.

‘I definitely regret not picking up on how emotional he got when he threw Alyssa under the bus, but so much is going on!

She does also have regrets about not voting for Wilfred Webster (Picture: BBC)

‘When there are 20 people around you, all saying and doing things, you cannot keep an eye on anyone in particular and notice these things that people do, but hindsight is a wonderful thing! Especially watching it back, it’s like, “Argh, how did I not see that?!”.’

As for her alliances, Alex describes herself as a ‘good judge of character’, so she relied on her gut instinct when forming connections.

‘I can tell when someone’s genuine or not, so I really gravitated towards Amos, for example, because I just knew. It’s hard to explain but my third eye intuition was like, “Ding! Faithful!”.

‘There were a handful of people I genuinely did know they were Faithfuls, Matt [Harris] as well, for sure, Aaron [Evans] in hindsight I shouldn’t have voted for him. I was actually gonna vote for Wilf and then I got scared!’

It remains to be seen whether the Traitors will steal the £120,000 prize pot, or if their identities will be successfully uncovered by the Faithfuls.

One thing’s for sure, though, and it’s that Alex saw her own banishment as an achievement in itself, as she knew she couldn’t have converted from Faithful to Traitor.

‘I’m very emotional and sensitive as a person,’ she admitted. ‘Cutting someone’s game short would’ve broken my heart, and having to lie through my teeth… that would’ve been really tough.’

The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
