The youngest person in the UK to be fitted with a bionic hand opened her first Christmas present live on This Morning.
Thalia Coultas, seven, appeared with her mum Kerrie on Monday’s episode of the ITV daytime show to reflect on her journey after getting her new hand just weeks ago.
Her parents found out in the 20 week pregnancy scan that their baby was going to be born without a left hand, and she has grown up wanting a ‘robotic arm when she was older’.
They were put in touch with organisations like LimbBo and Open Bionics, and the latter started a crowdfunding campaign for three children to get a bionic arm, which cost around £13,500 each.
Thalia admitted ‘it felt amazing’ to finally have a hand she could use, as her previous ones were non-functional, and she was finding life ‘a lot easier than before’.
While she noted the joy at simply ‘picking two things up at the same time’, This Morning host Craig Doyle joked about a cheekier possibility.

‘We had a chat earlier about the amazing things you can do with your new arm, and one thing you’re gonna be able to do, with practice, is pick your nose. We’re very excited about this Thalia,’ he quipped.
‘No! He’s telling lies,’ she laughed, adding: ‘You told me to! You did!’
She’ll also get to open her presents on her own for the first time this Christmas, and the This Morning team had a surprise as they gave her an early gift for her to unwrap.
Craig added: ‘Shall we practice?… This is for you, so let’s try out that arm, let’s see. Get in there!’
She thanked the team for their toy, and Craig teased: ‘That is so cute! Well, Thalia, well done… You have a brilliant Christmas, Thalia, won’t ya? And work on the nose picking, trust me!’
Beaming, she fired back: ‘No, I will not! You can practice though,’ but Craig joked: ‘Oh I’m well-practiced, I’m very good at it!’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
