Harrison Ford tried out an impressive 75 different hats for 1923 before finding ‘The Jacob’-Samuel McManus-Entertainment – Metro

Harrison Ford tried on a whopping 75 different hats for 1923 before settling on his character’s light tan cowboy hat.
The 80-year-old is currently starring alongside Helen Mirren in the Paramount+ series, which is a prequel to Yellowstone and a sequel to 1883.
But the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant has now revealed that the acting icon was so committed to finding the perfect piece of headwear for his character that he tried on 75 different hats.
Speaking to Variety, Janie said: ‘It’s all about his hat. We made so many for him. All the different colours — trying the different creases, the different brims, the different crown heights.’
After trying out all of the variations, Harrison, Janie and the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan all agreed the hat he has been seen wearing on screens was The One – and has even been named ‘The Jacob’ after Harrison’s character Jacob Dutton.
‘Taylor is also very specific about the kind of hat that he likes, too. There was a lot of collaboration with Taylor, with Harrison, and myself, to create what I call the “Jacob”,’ Janie continued.

To help promote the new series, Harrison recently reunited with Alison Hammond on This Morning – five years after their chaotic chat with Ryan Gosling discussing sci-fi epic Blade Runner 2049.
The pair got on famously during the initial interview, cackling away and leaving viewers in stitches at home as they clearly got on like a house on fire.
Addressing Harrison as he appeared virtually, Alison said: ‘Last time we met – well, frankly, we should be ashamed of ourselves. You led me astray.’
But Harrison responded: ‘No, no, that was not me! You started it. But it’s not gonna happen again.’

Discussing his role in 1923, Harrison said: ‘Helen [Mirren] and I played husband and wife 45 years ago. We both have enjoyed those scene in which our married life is featured [in 1923].
‘You see in the first episode how tough she is. She goes for it, and it’s great fun to work with her.’
In a three-star review of 1923, Metro.co.uk said that Harrison and Helen ‘lend a real gravitas to what is, at least as far as one can tell from episode one, a pretty simple story about stopping cows dying, locusts and land disputes.’

We added: ‘The strength of Ford and Mirren’s performances can only carry you so far and 1923 is going to have to find a higher gear to keep the new audience it hopes to find.’
