If you fancy a little legal antidote to the festive films and TV specials dominating our screens this week, then Wagatha Christie is here to deliver once more.
Channel 4’s hotly anticipated (and, let’s face it, impressively quickly produced) two-part drama based on the court battle between the two WAGs earlier this year begins with a release date of Wednesday December 21, with the second episode following on Thursday night.
The real-life drama began when Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories on her to the press, claiming she had set up a ‘sting operation’ by limiting access to her private Instagram Stories to only Vardy’s account and posting fake stories to smoke her out.
Vardy has always denied the claims and sued Rooney for libel, but lost the trial when it was ruled Rooney did not defame her.
The dramatisation, which has already also hit the stage, is set to feature all the major players, including footballer husbands Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy, as well as both women’s legal counsel, with the mini-series honing in on all the legal specifics.
Here are the stars set to entertain us with their takes on the real people involved…
Natalia Tena as Rebekah Vardy

In an interview ahead of the series airing, the actress said that she and co-star Tena, as well as the production as a whole, made sure that it ‘was very fair, and very level’.
‘You saw the dynamics of these women, and how they were just people. They did get upset. They did cry. They did find it hard being up on the stand. It’s intimidating, even being on the stand as an actor – so you [do] genuinely feel sorry for whoever was up there being questioned,’ she told The Independent.
‘All the world’s watching, and you know it. They’re hanging on every word you say – that’s got to be a big weight on your shoulders, for both parties.’
