Charlie Cox may be playing an MI6 spy in new Netflix drama Treason, but becoming James Bond couldn’t be further from his mind-Sabrina Barr-Entertainment – Metro

Ever since it was announced that Daniel Craig was stepping down as James Bond, numerous names have been thrown out there as possible favourites to succeed him as 007.
Now that Charlie Cox is starring as an MI6 agent in new Netflix series Treason, there will undoubtedly be plenty of people wondering if the Daredevil star could be up for the job.
However, the actor has made it clear that it isn’t to be… and with his huge Marvel comeback in full swing ever since he first returned as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he has an extremely busy schedule ahead of him.
Metro.co.uk recently caught up with Charlie, 40, to discuss his lead role in Treason as Adam Lawrence, a promising agent who’s risen the ranks in MI6, but finds himself in hot water when a woman from his past emerges from the shadows.
With the question of who will be the next James Bond an ongoing hot topic, we had to ask what he thought of speculation that he could be a strong contender, given his evident talent on screen and his experience playing a spy.
‘I’m not right for it,’ he responded adamantly. ‘And also, now I think if anything Treason rules me out even more because I’ve kind of done it – it’s almost too close to home.

‘I don’t think so. I’m vaguely aware that there’s lots of conversation around it, and every time I’m aware of someone who’s in conversation, I genuinely think, “Yeah, they’d be much better than I would.”’
Charlie stressed that it would be a ‘huge honour’ to join the Bond legacy, but outlined just how much he has going on in the near future.
He also highlighted that as Daredevil, he gets to experience playing a character with a double life, albeit in a different way.
‘Not that it wouldn’t be a huge honour, but with my ongoing Marvel contract and those projects that I’m doing, I get to scratch my James Bond itch a little bit, pretty much,’ he said.

‘I get to be in a suit and run around and have the day-to-day interesting life as a lawyer and someone who’s trying to do good and I do get a lot of pseudo spy stuff. I’ve got my own secrets that I can’t tell anyone, and I get to jump off buildings in spandex and stuff. So I’m pretty happy with that.’
He continued: ‘I get obviously the comparison’s easy to make, but I don’t think that’s on the cards for me.
Charlie also expressed a hope over the next person cast as 007, stating: ‘I’d also really like them to do something a bit different, than go with a middle aged white male.’
As we pointed out, he has an advantage of playing Matt Murdock, as Bond misses out on the chance to run around in a spandex suit.
‘Maybe they should do that, maybe they should do some spandex in this one. Maybe 007 going forward has a superhero outfit,’ he replied chuckling.
For now, we’ll settle with him returning as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again and starring as MI6 agent Adam in Treason. The best of both worlds!
While Charlie doesn’t have Bond in his sights (unless he’s thrown us a huge red herring), the actor does get to share the screen with Quantum of Solace actress Olga Kurylenko in Treason.
The cast also boasts his Kin co-star Ciarán Hinds, Game of Thrones actress Oona Chaplin, Star Wars: Rogue One star Beau Gadsdon and Doctor Who’s Alex Kingston.
Treason premieres on Netflix on December 26.
