‘Stale and irrelevant’ Mariah Carey is ‘stuck in a time capsule’ & has wardrobe malfunctions because of tight dresses

MARIAH Carey’s career might start to crash if she carries on performing wearing unsuitable dresses, a celebrity stylist has claimed.

And she thinks the pop star’s most recent wardrobe malfunction has set the wheels in motion.

In an exclusive interview image consultant Tavia Sharp told The U.S. Sun: “Mariah has started to look stale and is becoming irrelevant because she hasn’t evolved her style.

“She’s stuck in a time capsule and because she looks dated it’s hurting her more than helping her.

“When Mariah had the recent wardrobe malfunction in New York she couldn’t move without breaking the dress.

“Before that at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Mariah was squirming in the tight red dress, and it looked painfully awkward.”

Since the release of her 1994 anthem All I Want for Christmas, the holiday season has become a key period for Mariah and is said to boost her Queen of Christmas profile.

2022 has been no exception and the 51-year-old mom-of-two has appeared at countless events across New York City dolled up in different dresses as she ushered in the festive period.

In November Mariah performed at the Thanksgiving Day Parade decked out in a tight custom red tulle dress by the designer Christian Siriano.

She also wore a bejewelled tiara and clutched an matching umbrella.

But as the crowds gathered to watch Mariah sing, her body movements looked stilted in the dress and there was backlash surrounding lazy lip-syncing.

This month the singer appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert wearing a plunging tight black bodysuit and maxi skirt.

As the pair discussed her love of the holiday season, Mariah perched herself uncomfortably on the edge of her seat and flashed her trademark smile.

It was before she’d performed at her Merry Christmas to All concert wearing a bulky white gown, that Mariah rocked up at an another holiday celebration, this time thrown by the exclusive Moët & Chandon.

Here the singer’s Christmas dress disasters peaked when the slimline black satin number by Jonathan Simkhai, failed Mariah on stage.

As she belted out a four-song set, one of the chain links on Mariah’s dress had unexpectedly snapped.

Her stylist Wilfredo Rosado quickly reconnected it and she carried on.

“Mariah Carey shouldn’t be dealing with wardrobe malfunctions,” explains Tavia, who has styled celebrities like Drake and Chrissy Teigen.

“While she handled this recent one well and continued to sing along, it happened because the dress didn’t fit her properly.

“There was a metal chain attached to the fabric which looked fragile.

“The dress was probably too tight so it snapped.

“When you’re styling somebody, you need to think about the different movements the star will be making so they’re relaxed.

“There have been other occasions where Mariah has been on stage and can’t move because her dresses are so tight.”

Before now Mariah has often sought help from her team during performances when she wears tight dresses with plunging necklines.

More specifically in 2013 her sparkling Versace dress split while she was performing outside on set during a live Good Morning America appearance.

“Mariah often looks frozen versus allowing her body to relax and move while she sings.

“As far as her Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance look, I thought it was a little awkward and dated as well.

“When she wore the white dress for the final Christmas show, Mariah looked like a meringue.

“Because she’s curvy she probably wants to feel covered up in certain areas.

“There are so many other styling options that she could go with.

“I think her look in general is very dated.”

Amazingly Mariah’s latest Christmas wardrobe malfunction happened just after the singer lost a key trademark ruling for the name, Queen of Christmas.

And while she was also refused the titles, Princess of Christmas and QOC, Tavia notes that Mariah should salvage her style first: “Mariah failed at her attempt to trademark Queen of Christmas,” she says.

“But to maintain her profile and presence, Mariah needs to partner with the right fashion designer.

“Mariah should be partnering with a brand like Versace, who are making a major comeback and are reinventing their own design aesthetic.

“Versace would bring her back.

“Stars like Mariah are supposed to be the trend setters.

“Mariah has even had the same hairstyle for over 20 years now and it gets boring.

“She’s not the same person that she was back then.

“She has a young partner now as well, so you’d think she’d be inclined to revamping her style since he’s on her arm.

“Maybe she’s just comfortable with what she does and doesn’t want to do much more.

“This could even apply to the lip-synching.

“Perhaps Mariah’s purposely playing it safe because she has this trepidation of putting herself out there.

“She actually doesn’t seem to be putting much effort into any of it any more.”
