As 2022 draws to a close, it’s only right we look back on the iconic pop culture moments this year has given us… but we have questions.

It’s been a year of celebrity love, drama, scandal and so much more, from Louis Theroux’s viral TikTok rap, to the Coleen Rooney v Rebekah Vardy court case.

And while some things have had satisfying resolutions – like Bennifer 2.0 getting their happy ending and Jennifer Coolidge getting a Golden Globe nom for The White Lotus – there are others keeping us awake at night.

So, allow us to dive into the biggest unsolved celebrity mysteries of 2022, from that Don’t Worry Darling press run to the queue-jump scandal.

Did Harry Styles actually spit on Chris Pine?

It’s up there with the great unknowns – how was the universe created? Do aliens exist? And did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?

The Don’t Worry Darling promo run was a Wilde (get it?) ride from start to finish, mostly thanks to rumours of an on-set feud between director Olivia and lead actress Florence Pugh.

While we may never know exactly what went down once the cameras stopped rolling, we simply must relive Spit Gate.

After walking the carpet at the Venice Film Festival, the cast took their seats inside the theatre to watch the movie, with Chris sitting down next to Olivia.

Watermelon Sugar singer Harry came next but, as he bowed his head to grab the seat, eagle-eyed Twitter users were convinced he spat in Chris’ lap.

Now, Harry is famously private and tends to brush off rumours, but this one got so big that his team did issue a statement to confirm that, no, he did not hurl saliva at Chris Pine in public for hundreds of people to see. Chris’ team also branded the reports a ‘complete fabrication’ and the result of an ‘odd online illusion.’

There’ll always be fans who are sceptical, since there’s video evidence of the moment, well, it looks like we can tick this one off the list.
