The Witcher: Blood Origin showrunner has opened up on what it was like to meet Michelle Yeoh for the first time, admitting that just like any normal folk, he was ‘terrified’ to be in her presence.

When it comes to icons of the silver screen, Michelle, 60, is definitely up there among the very best, proving herself time and time again as both a stellar actor and magnificent martial artist.

In the new Witcher prequel series arriving on Netflix on Christmas Day, she joins the cast as the mysterious Scian, a sword-elf who embarks on a mission to take back a weapon that was stolen from her tribe.

While speaking to Metro.co.uk at the London premiere of the fantasy drama, showrunner Declan de Barra admitted how much of an honour it was to have the Everything Everywhere All at Once star join the cast.

‘Michelle was great. Michelle doesn’t need to do anything – she’s Michelle Yeoh. She only does projects she likes, so I had to call her up and pitch her the show, and she loved it. So she came on board,’ he recalled.

‘I was absolutely terrified of her because I was just such a huge fan.’

However, it turns out that beneath the air of excellence that Michelle carries with her is a hilarious prankster, Declan revealed.

‘She’s just the funniest prankster,’ he shared.

‘One of my producers is 6’5”. She just raises her leg up like that, stops in front of his face, brings it down and then just walks off. This is normal for her, she’s just brilliant. I love her.’

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set more than 1,000 years before the events of the original show, which tell the tale of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill).

The new series will detail what happened when the very first witcher prototype was created, as monsters infiltrate the world of the lead characters for the first time.
