Brenda Edwards breaks down with grief during rehearsal of song that reminds her of late son Jamal-Rachael O'Connor-Entertainment – Metro

Brenda Edwards was overwhelmed with grief for her late son Jamal Edwards as she rehearsed a song with her Loose Women co-stars.

The TV personality, 53, lost her son in February as he suffered a cardiac arrest in her home after a night out.

Edwards, who was just 31 when he died, was a hero of the music industry, having set up SBTV and helped launch the careers of some of the biggest British music acts in recent years.

The late star has been honoured posthumously for his work with multiple awards, and his family have set up the Jamal Edwards Foundation in his memory to continue his legacy.

Brenda returned to work on Loose Women earlier this year, previously speaking about how the support of her coworkers helped her deal with her devastating grief, and viewers have now seen an example of this first-hand.

Friday’s episode of the ITV chat show showed a preview of Britain Get Singing, in which famous faces get together to form a choir for a head-to-head sing-off.

Some Loose Women cast members, including Brenda, are taking part in the show and will perform Simon and Garfunkel’s bridge Over Troubled Water.

However during a rehearsal of the song, Brenda became visibly emotional, before having to stop as she broke down in tears.

She was supported by fellow panelist Linda Robson, who wrapped her arms around the grieving mum as she sobbed.

Speaking to cameras, Brenda explained they sing that particular song at church and it reminds her of her late son.

‘It got me a little bit upset because my son passed away earlier in the year,’ she said. ‘At the moment, everything is a trigger.’

She added: ‘I’m doing this in honour and in memory of my son Jamal. I’ve had a tough year, and talking to the ladies was very comforting. I’m very grateful that I have them as a unit around me.’

As the clip finished and viewers were brought back to the Loose Women set, host Kaye Adams paid tribute to Brenda, saying: ‘We’re very lucky to have Brenda. We’re so incredibly proud of her, of the whole group in fact.’

Brenda recently spoke to Metro.co.uk where she said her son’s death left ‘a big hole’ in her life but insists she still feels his presence and he has ‘not gone anywhere.’

Getting candid about the ‘overwhelming’ emotions she’s been feeling, the TV star admitted she still ‘doesn’t know’ how to put it into words.

‘I don’t know how I’m feeling. I’ve got to find a word for that because I keep being asked and I honestly don’t know how I’m feeling. I’m feeling… sad. I’m feeling joyous, I’m feeling overwhelmed, I’m feeling proud. Mostly, I’m feeling upset,’ she said.

‘But it’s a celebration of my baby’s life and what he did and how he helped everybody so I’ve got to celebrate that because that’s what the Trust, and everything that he’s done, it’s about continuing that.’

Britain Get Singing airs Saturday, Christmas Eve, at 8.05pm on ITV1; Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
