The Traitors hero Kieran Tompsett ‘not asking for a penny’ after savage move in final allowed Faithfuls to scoop £101,050-Emily Bashforth-Entertainment – Metro

Kieran Tompsett was truly the hero of the hour in the finale of The Traitors – but he’s remained gracious and humble until the end.
The solutions consultant joined 21 strangers for the ride of a lifetime in Claudia Winkleman’s epic gameshow, which saw Faithfuls and Traitors compete in the ultimate game of trust and deceit, hoping to scoop a massive cash prize.
But after loyal Faithful Kieran, 42, was recruited in the penultimate episode by original Traitor Wilfred Webster, he suddenly had to take on a darker role – which he admits he wasn’t built for.
So, for the greater good, and knowing that Wilf was certain to steal the money for himself in the final, Kieran made the bold choice of delivering a ‘parting gift’ and voting for him in the last roundtable – praying Hannah Byczkowski, Aaron Evans, and Meryl Williams would pick up what he was putting down.
Thankfully, they did! And the remaining Faithfuls exposed Wilf’s Traitor antics before splitting the huge prize pot three worth – earning them a cool £33,000 each.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Kieran revealed he isn’t asking for a single penny of the money, despite being instrumental in the Faithfuls’ triumph.

‘I think everyone in the final deserves some money but that’s not how it plays out. I win in other ways. I’m happy to see what Aaron can do with his dream come true, and Meryl and Hannah,’ he said.
‘I could’ve done with it, I’m not gonna lie, but I think, sometimes, the money is irrelevant. I’m proud of my performance and I’m proud of how it ended, so I haven’t asked for a penny and I certainly wouldn’t.
‘Even if they offered me some, I wouldn’t take it.’
Explaining his decision to throw Wilf under the bus in his savage final vote, Kieran admitted he knew it was ‘only going to go one way’ and he needed to do something big to change the outcome.

‘I just kept thinking about Aaron and his mum with the money, it literally kept me up at night,’ he said, knowing Aaron wanted to use the money for a deposit for his mum’s house.
‘Everyone deserved to win, everyone played a part, but Aaron in particular kept haunting me, going round and round in my head. I lost my mum a couple of years ago and I just had to try and do what I could to try and change it because, let’s be honest, it was only going one way.
‘A well-placed sentence at the perfect time gave the maximum impact.’
And what a well-placed sentence it was, given that Kieran knew he had no chance of going all the way thanks to Wilf’s previous ultimatum to either become a Traitor, or get murdered immediately.

‘As soon as he brought me on, I knew he was gonna turn on me,’ Kieran stated.
‘It was comply or die, but I knew it was curtains for me. So I had to try hard and come up with something. I’m proud to have been part of something so amazing.’
And, in case you were wondering, there’s no bad blood between Ultimate Traitor Wilf and newly-recruited Traitor (but Faithful at heart) Kieran, even if it did take him ‘a good two or three weeks’ to later process the events.

Kieran praises Wilf for playing ‘an absolute blinder’ throughout the show, admitting: ‘Without a baddie, you can’t have a goodie.’
‘I pay all level of respect to him,’ he adds.
‘I’m happy with how it played out. I’m grateful for my journey and the experience. I cherished the memories. It’s not every day you get buried alive, go in a helicopter, go in a speedboat, and kill some of your friends is it?’
The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
